This role is pivotal to providing technical support to the project management and asset management teams in areas such as design review, optioneering, grid connection process management, review of G99 studies and technical tender evaluation. About the Role:
Grid Connections Manager will report directly to the Technical Director and will work across all aspects of the Grid Scale Renewables Development process, including carrying out grid feasibility studies, managing the grid connection process from initial applications through to final connection, compliance and technical interface with industry partners.
The projects are predominately around large-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) connecting to the Distribution Network at 33 kV, 66 kV and 132 kV or directly to National Grid’s Transmission network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the successful delivery of the grid connection process for utility scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage projects through their lifecycle, including making grid applications and ensuring the business meets milestones required in grid offers.
- Support the development and delivery teams with project design, procurement, feasibility assessments.
- Identifying and mitigating project risks, advise the business on an on-going basis about existing and anticipated grid-related liabilities and costs.
- Support the project management team in managing the delivery of works being undertaken by electrical and grid connection contractors.
- Maintain and strengthen on-going relationships with the project teams and industry partners.
- Act as the company’s interface with network companies (DNOs, TOs and the SO) and engage as required to achieve successful outcomes.
- Deliver work to a high level of competency.
Key Skills and Expertise:
- Minimum HNC (level 5) in Electrical Engineering.
- Network analysis and understanding of how power systems work.
- A good understanding of the grid connection process, regulations and national policies.
- Commercial awareness and an appreciation of the UK energy system charging rules.
- Ability to maintain and build positive relationships with stakeholders and industry partners.
- A proactive and positive attitude to explore opportunities and drive the business into new markets.
- Valid right to work in the UK certification - we are unable to offer Visa Sponsorship at this stage.
Desirable Skills and Expertise:
- Experienced background in Electrical Design within a NERS (ICP) or DNO.
- Project Management qualifications (Prince 2, APMP).
- Experience in technical or project management for grid connection assets such as new substations, substation extensions, grid connections of renewable energy projects.
